Chelsea Flower Show 2017

London Family Home

Situated just moments from the beautiful Wandsworth Common in South London, Rosebank Landscaping and Matt Keightley were commissioned to undertake the design and implementation of a new contemporary planting scheme and associated hard landscaping adaptions to the existing concept by Ross Allan Designs. This contemporary garden was designed and built to flow seamlessly from the breathtaking architecture and interior of this Victorian detached house.

Huge sliding glass doors on the new extension bathe the interior of the house in light and provide uninterrupted views of the garden as you enter through the front door.

Matt designed the planting scheme to transition from a contemporary scheme nearest the house to reflect the nature of the modernistic extension, through to a softer and more natural bed of perennials and grasses. To achieve the contemporary look, Matt designed tightly clipped Buxus balls in a cloud formation to sit at the base of the table-top Carpinus, whilst punctuated with splashes of colour from taller perennials and ground cover from various Thymes. As you move down the garden, the free-flowing nature of the planting scheme becomes more apparent using a muted palette of cool tones of white, blues and purples whilst playing with layered heights, set against a backdrop of Jasmine hedging to cover the fencing.

Three tall Cupressus help to soften the junction between the simple geometry of the main lawn area and the circular trampoline area. The deep bed behind the trampoline was designed as a soft bank of shaded planting, complimented by accents of colour that link back to the main body of perennial planting, with carefully placed punctuations of lime green foliage. This bed was to provide a soft backdrop to the garden whilst also creating real depth.

Hunza light fittings transform the scheme at night with a beautiful warm white glow of the key features whilst also making it a useable space after dark.
